International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th, but this month is also known as “Women’s History Month”! As I was looking up books, quotes, and videos to incorporate into lessons, I realized I don’t remember learning about many of these women as a student. We learned about a handful of women in history, art, religion, and language arts that I think many of us grew up learning about (Rosa Parks, Blessed Mother Mary, Frida Kahlo, Anne Frank are the ladies that stand out the most)…but there are so many more. I’ve really enjoyed learning alongside our students while also sharing some of my favorite women in history, literature, and movies.
Rosie the Riveter, although technically a fictional character, is one of my favorite representations of what it means to be a woman. Rosie represents women during WWII who stepped up to the plate when many men were off to war. There was a need for smart and capable minds to support America on the home front, and women across the country did just that. This was definitely a turning point for women in American history.

Given the “gift” of obedience, Ella has to find a way to break the curse bestowed upon her. I loved this book as a young girl, and the movie is a lot of fun!
To finish off this post, I’m sharing a Disney video I really enjoy. Like many children, I grew up watching Disney princesses movies. As I’ve gotten older, I love seeing the new movies with the princesses that are also strong characters. From these fictional ladies I learned to never give up, to hope, to dream, and to fight for what’s important to me. Dream BIG, my friends!
