A Book Review for K-2

There are so many wonderful books in this world. It is hard to pick favorites. Being an avid reader, I often forget to look at the simple books. A few years ago at the SP book fair I came across Hondo & Fabian by Peter McCarty. The cover caught my eye and I just had to take a peek. The entire story is based on a day in the life of Hondo the dog and Fabian the cat. Each action of one is contrasted with the action of the other. The illustrations are beautifully soft and heartwarming.  Being a cat and dog person myself I saw my pets in every page. I know these animals! Peter McCarty does a wonderful job of highlighting the emotions of non human creatures while adding a quiet personification to help the reader connect with the characters.  This book is wonderful for beginning readers as the language is simple and truly compliments the illustrations. Hondo & Fabian is the Falcon’s favorite picture book!
