Celebrating Native American Heritage Month

November is National Native American Heritage Month and we are ready to celebrate in the Learning Commons. There are so many great books where native people are the main characters and they aren’t all historical. That being said, there are also many books that misrepresent Native Americans. As a librarian I always try to stay well informed so before compiling my list of recommended books for our display I searched the internet! I came upon many different websites and blog but the one I found particularly helpful is called Americans Indians in Children’s Literature This blog is an excellent resource and I highly suggest taking a look at it.

We ended finding a lot of book in our library where the characters are Native American. We also ordered quite a few more. There are a variety for all ages too!

Unfortunately, it’s hard to find information about a lot of the books featured this month. I did manage to put together a small playlist of book trailers on YouTube. Take a look or stop by the LC to see all we have to offer.
