Reading Tracker Book Club

The Learning Commons will be hosting a weekly book club to help students complete their ELA Reading trackers. We will be starting with a Mystery book before moving on to an Adventure book. Both will be completed in time to turn in your project for each book by the end of the trimester. We plan on doing this the entire year with one book for each required genre.

Who, When, Where?

We will meet each week on Thursdays in the the LC during Jr. High lunch time. You may bring your lunch and come eat while we read. Most of the time we will only have one copy of the book so it is a good idea to borrow a copy from your local library or purchase your own copy. Should you miss a meeting we will add an update to this post with the page numbers that were read each week.

What will we read?

The goal is to read each of the 6 required genres for your reading tracker. We will follow the calendar laid out by Mr Williams. As the books are selected this post will be updated so you can purchase them ahead of time.

Our first book

Georgie’s story will capture readers’ imaginations with the very first sentences and then hold them hostage until the final…” – Kirkus Book Review

n the town of Placid, Wisconsin, in 1871, Georgie Burkhardt is known for two things: her uncanny aim with a rifle and her habit of speaking her mind plainly.

But when Georgie blurts out something she shouldn’t, her older sister Agatha flees, running off with a pack of “pigeoners” trailing the passenger pigeon migration. And when the sheriff returns to town with an unidentifiable body—wearing Agatha’s blue-green ball gown—everyone assumes the worst. Except Georgie. Refusing to believe the facts that are laid down (and coffined) before her, Georgie sets out on a journey to find her sister. She will track every last clue and shred of evidence to bring Agatha home. Yet even with resolute determination and her trusty Springfield single-shot, Georgie is not prepared for what she faces on the western frontier.
